A Practical Alternative to the ER During the Day

A Practical Alternative to the ER During the Day

Major 24/7 emergency hospitals provide incredible care, but overnight stays can easily cost $4,000–$6,000. For many pet families, that level of care is not always financially feasible.

Plano Animal Hospital helps bridge that gap. During our regular business hours, we provide advanced diagnostic tools, urgent case support, daytime hospitalization, and the critical care experience of an ER-trained medical leader. This allows us to treat many sick or injured pets effectively while helping families make care decisions that fit their budget.

We also offer payment and financing options, including Cherry, for unexpected veterinary costs.

When to Go Straight to a 24/7 ER

Some conditions need around-the-clock emergency support. Please go directly to a 24/7 emergency hospital if your pet has:

  • Oxygen-dependent respiratory distress

  • Snake bite exposure, since we do not carry antivenom

  • Severe trauma requiring immediate 24-hour monitoring

  • Critical illness that will likely require overnight hospitalization

  • Any condition that cannot safely wait until regular business hours

  • Any case where your pet needs continuous monitoring after our hospital closes

If you are unsure where to go, call us. We can help you decide whether Plano Animal Hospital is the right place for your pet’s needs or whether a 24/7 ER is safer.

What to Expect When You Call

Urgent care availability depends on our daily schedule and the medical needs of the pets already in our hospital. Calling ahead helps us prepare for your arrival, review your pet’s symptoms, and determine whether we can safely support your pet that day.

When you call, our team may ask about your pet’s symptoms, how long they have been happening, your pet’s breathing, appetite, energy level, medications, and any known medical conditions. Based on that information, we will guide you toward the best next step.
